'Talkative batteries': Battery cells send temperature data through existing terminals, simplifying battery management

Summary by TechXplore
A battery that "talks" does not use words—it communicates through data. Researchers at Kiel University have demonstrated how sensors inside a battery cell can transmit measurement data to the outside without the need for additional communication wires. Instead, the system uses the existing power connections as well as the electronics that already control the battery's charging and discharging process.

Kiel researchers want to improve the safety of e-car batteries: a new battery sends temperature data from the inside.

Researchers from Kiel are developing "speakable" batteries: sensor data is transmitted via power connections without additional cables – for safer, more efficient energy storage systems. The article Kiel researchers bring batteries "speaked" was first published on ingenieur.de - Jobbörse und Nachrichtsportal für Ingenieure.

A research team of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) has developed a system with which battery storage can automatically transfer data from the inside of the battery cells. This is already the case – according to the CAU, however, not without additional data lines. The Kiel system, on the other hand, uses the already existing power lines as well as the electronics necessary to control the charging and unloading processes anyway. …
