Architect Henry C. Trost shaped the built environment of southern New Mexico, designing schools, homes, hotels and public buildings across Alamogordo, Cloudcroft and the Tularosa Basin. Influenced by Chicago modernism, Prairie architecture and Spanish colonial traditions, Trost developed “Arid America,” adapting buildings to desert climate. Though more than 600 structures were built, many have been demolished.
