Take a Look at the Newest Renderings of the Capital One Arena Renovations
The more than $1 billion overhaul adds new concourses, a food hall and the Visibowl as Monumental extends Capital One’s naming rights for 20 years.
On Tuesday, Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced a 20-year naming rights extension with Capital One and released new renderings for the $1 billion+ Capital One Arena transformation in downtown Washington.
The renovation, part of an agreement to keep the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards in downtown Washington, involves a 200,000-square-foot expansion into former retail space at Gallery Place.
Upgrades include an 'iconic new exterior,' a Visibowl video wall, 30% more restrooms, and a Terrace Level food hall, with a dedicated Capital One cardholder entrance relocating for all events beginning fall 2027.
Scheduled for completion before the 2027-28 NBA and NHL seasons, the venue will host approximately 250 annual events, including the 2027 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship and 2028 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional.
Executives highlighted the investment as a commitment to downtown Washington, building on Capital One's regional support, which included over $7.2 billion in community development financing in 2025 alone.
