Tajikistan: Afghan Refugee Children at Risk of Detention

Tajikistan has served as a refuge for several waves of refugees from Afghanistan–such as those fleeing the civil war of the 1990s and the U.S invasion in the 2000s. Amid the Taliban’s rapid territorial advances in Afghanistan in 2021, and concerns about a potential influx of people fleeing the country, the Tajik government announced in July 2021 that it would accept up to 100,000 Afghan refugees.
