SFJ Pledges $1bn at Trump’s Board of Peace, Seeks Punjab Referendum
President Trump launched the Board of Peace to lead Gaza reconstruction and rival the UN, with some key allies declining to join, officials said.
- On Feb 19, world leaders who accepted President Donald Trump's invitation were greeted in Washington with fanfare at the US Institute of Peace, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio renamed for the event.
- The Board of Peace, created in September 2025, was set up to coordinate Gaza reconstruction, with Mr Trump focusing on other topics for about 25 minutes.
- Mr Trump repeatedly complimented attendees, using `beautiful` at least 14 times and recounting how he pressured India and Pakistan with tariff threats while noting Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's `tough` face.
- During the group photo, James Brown's `It's a Man's Man's Man's World` played as Mr Trump recounted being stuck on a 2025 UN escalator, saying `I was lucky my movie-star First Lady was in front of me.`
- Several key US allies declined to join the Gaza reconstruction forum, potentially limiting its international reach, while President Santiago Pena of Paraguay attended and was singled out by Mr Trump.
