China urged the Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum not to undermine diplomatic relations after the confirmation of Taiwan's presence at the next summit.
China warned a senior Pacific Island diplomat on Tuesday to "avoid the healthy and stable development of relations", after the diplomat announced that Taiwan would participate in the annual meeting of leaders of the region. Taiwan was prevented from participating in last year's Pacific Island Leaders Forum, after protests from Beijing, which claims the democratically elected island as part of its territory.
