Taiwan shares extend strength to end above 37,000 points
Taipei, April 16 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan continued momentum from a session earlier to close above the 37,000-point mark for the first time Thursday as market sentiment improved amid hopes that the United States and Iran will resume peace negotiations soon, dealers said.
Led by electronics heavyweights, the Taiwan stock market surged past the 37,000-point mark on the 16th, closing at 37,132.02 points, up 409.88 points, setting a new historical high. As the index climbed, the market capitalization of the Taiwan stock market also rose, surpassing the UK to become the world's 7th largest market. Simultaneously, Taiwan also entered the top 10 holders of US Treasury bonds.
