Taiwan rattled by 5.6 magnitude quake, no reports of damage
The earthquake registered a maximum intensity of 4 in Nanao Township and was felt across northern Taiwan without causing damage, officials said.
- A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan's northeastern county of Yilan on Tuesday , briefly shaking buildings in the capital, Taipei.
- The quake had a depth of 66.8km, and its epicenter was 16.9km from Yilan county government seat in coastal waters, according to Taiwan's weather administration.
- Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes, with over 100 people killed in a 2016 quake and more than 2,000 in a 1999 quake of 7.3 magnitude.
