Syria’s civil defense agency reported this Sunday that the forest fires that ravaged the coastal province of Latakia, in the west of the country, have been controlled after 10 days of intense fighting. The flames, which exploded on July 2 in the middle of an intense heat wave hitting the region, burned vast tracts of forests and farmland and forced the evacuation of several localities.
