The Druze-majority town of Sueida in southern Syria counts its deaths on Thursday after the withdrawal of government troops, decided by interim president Ahmad al-Chareh to avoid an "open war" with Israel according to him. Israel had threatened to intensify its strikes if the Syrian power did not leave this province of Syria.
After two days of Israeli bombing of the province of Sueida and the capital, Damascus, the new Syrian regime - power has been in the hands of former Al Qaeda fighter and leader of radical Islamist Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) Ahmed al Sharaa since December - has withdrawn its troops from the Druze enclave of southern Syria after announcing on the eve a second ceasefire reached thanks to mediation, especially from the United States and Turkey.
15:13 The Syrian Ministry of Defense reports that it has withdrawn its forces from the Druze town of Swaida. Meanwhile, the ceasefire with the Druze remains in place.
