The city was taken over by the Internal Security Forces under an agreement between the Damascus government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). According to the agreement, these forces will carry out administrative tasks in the city, but its security would continue to be guaranteed by the Kurdish law enforcement agency.
Elections will be held in Hasakah and Kobani after security is ensured.
