Sydney Roosters Edge Knights in Tense NRL Grand Final
Daly Cherry-Evans sealed the comeback with a 70th-minute field goal as the Roosters overcame a 12-0 deficit and won before 80,814 fans.
The Sydney Roosters defeated the Newcastle Knights 19-18 on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Accor Stadium in Sydney, capturing their first National Rugby League premiership since 2019.
After trailing 12-0, the Roosters mounted a second-half comeback against the Knights, who were attempting to secure their first title in 25 years following a wooden-spoon finish last season.
Winger Mark Nawaqanitawase scored two tries, Clive Churchill Medalist James Tedesco ran for more than 300 metres, and retiring star Daly Cherry-Evans, 37, kicked the decisive 70th-minute field goal.
In front of 80,814 fans, the Roosters dominated 57 per cent of possession to withstand a late surge from Newcastle; a final try from Greg Marzhew narrowed the margin, but the Roosters held on.
Earlier Sunday, the Sydney Roosters women's team completed an undefeated season by defeating the Brisbane Broncos 30-6 to win the NRLW title, cementing a perfect 13-win campaign.
