Extreme heat kills up to 480,000 people a year, more than the combined death toll from floods, earthquakes and hurricanes, and is increasingly threatening infrastructure, economies and healthcare systems, according to Swiss Re.
The global increase in heat is currently seen as a major threat to society, but also to insurers, as a recent study by the reinsurer Swiss Re shows. According to this study, heat waves pose an even greater risk than floods, earthquakes and hurricanes.
