Swedish pupils have never before been as poor in mathematics, reading comprehension and science in any Pisa survey in 25 years, in shock results that present a stark wake-up call.

Swedish 15-year-olds in total have never had such poor knowledge in mathematics, reading comprehension and science, the PISA measurement shows.One third lack basic knowledge in reading comprehension and mathematics. “This is very serious,” says Anna Castberg at Skolverket.
Sweden's recovery after the 2012 Pisa shock has been erased. Pisa director Andreas Schleicher describes the results as "disappointing" and points to poor reading comprehension as a fundamental problem.
The knowledge decline for Swedish students is sharp in the latest Pisa survey. Overall, they have never been so poor in mathematics, reading comprehension and science in any Pisa survey in the last 25 years. “It is a broad decline in results that is very worrying,” says Christina Månberg, acting director general at the Swedish National Agency for Education.
Swedish students' skills continue to deteriorate. The latest Pisa survey measures the worst results to date in both mathematics and reading comprehension.
