Sweden’s ruling coalition trails in poll, but closes gap on centre-left opposition
Two August polls show the opposition leading, but the gap has fallen to 4.7 percentage points and the Liberals remain below 4 percent.
- With less than three weeks until Sweden's general election, two new polls suggest the gap between the governing Tidö parties and the opposition is narrowing, with the opposition's lead almost halving since June.
- In the Indikator Opinion survey for Swedish Radio News, the opposition commands 51.3 percent of voter support compared to 46.6 percent for the government, a gap of 4.7 percentage points.
- Individual party results show the Social Democrats at 31.3 percent, while the Sweden Democrats lead the right-wing bloc at 19.7 percent, ahead of the Moderates at 18.9 percent.
- Smaller parties remain critical, with the Left Party polling at 7.6 percent, the Green Party at 6.5 percent, the Centre Party at 5.9 percent, and the Christian Democrats at 5.8 percent.
- The Liberals remain stuck below the four-percent parliamentary threshold at 2.2 percent, despite party leader Simona Mohamsson shifting stance in the spring to allow ministerial posts for the Sweden Democrats.
