Sweden's EQT raises $15.6 billion for largest Asian private equity fund

The fund was oversubscribed and drew more than 75 new investors as EQT outpaced rivals in Asia fundraising.

  • On Tuesday, Swedish private equity firm EQT announced it raised $15.6 billion for its Asia-focused buyout fund, creating the largest private equity fund ever assembled for the Asia Pacific region.
  • The fundraising surpasses the previous $15 billion record set by KKR in 2021, while EQT had originally targeted $12.5 billion when launching the fund in August 2024.
  • With 75 per cent of capital coming from outside Asia, EQT Asia chairman Jean Salata said 80 per cent came from three regions, while "The opportunity in Asia today has shifted from chasing growth to leading profound structural transformation," Hari Gopalakrishnan and Nicholas Macksey noted.
  • Investors are increasingly favoring scale and concentrating capital with fewer managers; Bain Capital recently raised $10.5 billion for its sixth Asian fund while Blackstone gathered more than $12 billion for its latest vehicle.
  • EQT aims to triple its Asia investments to as much as $110 billion over the next five years, a strategy that outpaces deployment in its Europe home turf as the firm navigates market cycles.
