Sweden Adds to Pressure on EU to Suspend Trade with Israel
EUROPEAN UNION, JUL 31 – Sweden urges EU to suspend trade with Israel due to possible human rights breaches amid Gaza conflict, with the EU accounting for nearly one-third of Israel's global trade, EU data shows.
- On Thursday, Sweden called on the EU to suspend the trade part of its association agreement with Israel over its conduct in Gaza, as Ulf Kristersson demanded action.
- Amid human rights concerns, an EU report presented to the 27 member states at the end of June found that Israel may have fallen short of its obligations, and Caspar Veldkamp indicated earlier this week that the Netherlands would push for suspension if unmet.
