Swampy taste, smell of Lake Huron water supply due to presence of geosmin - Ground Water Canada

Lake Huron, Ont. – Odd-tasting and smelling water from the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System is due to the presence of geosmin which has originated from the lake’s bacteria and algae. It’s noted that geosmin is more noticeable when water temperatures are warmer. Some people have experienced a swampy taste or smell to their water while others have noticed no difference.
