Sweden set to make 'poor conduct' ground for revoking residence permits

Sweden's government tightens rules for migrants: those who do not act "rightfully" risk deportation in the future. Thus, fraud, debt and terror glorification could lead to the loss of residence permits. That is a two-way measure, according to critics.

The government must withdraw the proposal that poor living conditions could lead to the denial or revocation of residence permits, Civil rights defenders believe. “This will not benefit our society,” says Chief Legal Officer John Stauffer.

The Swedish government announced on Tuesday that it intends to introduce rules of conduct for migrants, under penalty of expulsion, based on the conclusions of a report on a possible evolution of Swedish legislation on the matter, AFP reports, as reported by Agerpres.

Anyone who shows “lack of good character” should be able to get rid of or be denied a residence permit in Sweden. – We want people who come to Sweden to take care and make an effort. Now they will have an incentive to do so, says Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M). He believes that most people understand exactly what he means – but the criticism of the proposal is harsh.
