Suspect Shot Dead by Surrey Police Following Stabbings
One stabbing victim died and another was hospitalized after police shot a suspect following a confrontation, officials said.
- On Friday at about 1 p.m., Surrey Police Service officers responded to a stabbing near Holland Park and discovered two victims, one of whom died at the scene.
- Following the assault, officers located a male suspect nearby and fatally shot him after a confrontation; the suspect "was identified by witnesses as having been involved in the assaults," the agency said.
- The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has assumed control of the stabbing investigation, with authorities requesting anyone with information contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448.
- British Columbia's Independent Investigations Office , a civilian-led agency, has been notified to review police actions and will determine if officers committed any criminal offences during the shooting.
- Numerous police agencies, including Metro Vancouver Transit Police, maintained a heavy presence near Old Yale Road and the King George SkyTrain station throughout Friday evening as investigators processed the scene.
