Suspect jailed pending trial in killing of Scottish aid worker in Athens
Suspect Sharif Ahmadzai faces homicide charges and allegations of stealing over €10,000 from the victim's accounts.
- On Thursday, an Athens judge ordered 26-year-old Sharif Ahmadzai held in pre-trial detention while prosecutors compile evidence against him in the killing of Scottish aid worker Elisabeth-Jane Ross in the Kypseli area.
- Surveillance footage and messages sent from Ross's phone linked Ahmadzai to the crime; his wife, Alaina Hall, reportedly alerted police after tracking his location to where Ross was staying.
- Prosecutors charged Ahmadzai with homicide with intent and alleged he stole more than 10,000 euro from Ross's bank accounts and impersonated a jihadist in texts to her contacts.
- The Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed it is providing consular support to the family, while Police Scotland stated, "Officers are providing support to her family in Scotland" as authorities await tissue analysis results.
- Ahmadzai remains in custody pending a future hearing where the court will review evidence compiled since the body's discovery in a derelict building on Evelpidon Street in late July.
