Half of Finns fear wider war but still trust NATO
Nearly half of the Finnish population believes the war in Ukraine may escalate into a wider European conflict in the near future, a new national survey shows. According to the autumn 2025 Values and Attitudes Survey, 46 percent of Finns fear a major war spreading across Europe. About one-third, or 31 percent, do not consider it likely, while 22 percent remain unsure. Women were significantly more likely to express fear about escalation.
According to the survey, trust in NATO's security guarantees has recovered since the spring. Almost half of Finns (46%) fear that the war in Ukraine will escalate into a major European war in the near future, according to the Business Council's EVA Autumn 2025 Values and Attitudes Survey. According to the survey, just under a third (31%) do not consider the threat to be current and a fifth (22%) cannot express their opinion.
