Charges Laid in Grandparent Scam Investigation in Chilliwack

- The investigation began on Oct. 11, 2025, when an 88-year-old Chilliwack woman reported being defrauded by a caller claiming to be her grandson who needed bail money.
- Police said the victim gave a "substantial" amount of cash to a person she met in person; when further funds were requested, she grew suspicious and reported the incident, enabling investigators to identify Singh and recover a "large amount of the money."
- Singh was released on conditions pending his first court appearance on Sept. 9, while Const. Hannah Sutton of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment warned that police "never ask for money over the phone."
