Support for Alberta independence sits at 3 in 10 in favour, poll finds
A petition drive aims to trigger a referendum on Alberta's independence, with 29% support in a recent Angus Reid poll among nearly 1,000 Albertans surveyed.
- On Thursday, Dion told Rosemary Barton Live that Dion demanded Smith clarify her stance and explain who would lead negotiations if a referendum proceeds.
- Smith's government lowered the bar by cutting signatures to about 177,000, and separatists must gather validated signatures by May 2 with three months remaining.

- New polling last week by the Angus Reid Institute found 29 per cent support for separation, while the Forever Canadian petition collected 438,568 signatures and was submitted last year.
- Dion warned publicly and said `I have no patience for separatist blackmail`, while the U.S. State Department said no commitments were made amid domestic condemnation of separatist meetings.
