Cornerback Stephon Gilmore Retires as a Member of the Patriots

On Friday, former Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore returned to Gillette Stadium to sign a one-day contract and officially retire as a member of the New England Patriots, the team where he won Super Bowl LIII.
Gilmore announced his retirement in April via Instagram after 13 seasons, and Friday's visit to Gillette Stadium made it official following his final season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.
The five-time Pro Bowl selection earned the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award and two All-Pro honors, recording 617 tackles, 32 interceptions, and eight sacks over his 13-year career.
Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf introduced Gilmore as one of the greatest defensive players in franchise history, while Gilmore credited veterans Tom Brady and Devin McCourty with helping him improve.
After stints with the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, and Minnesota Vikings, Gilmore turns 36 on Saturday and will attend Sunday's Patriots game against Pittsburgh.
