Sun guard Saniya Rivers sprains her left ankle vs. the Lynx and leaves the court in a wheelchair
Rivers had five points before the injury and was ruled out after a blocked layup left her with a left ankle sprain.
Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers suffered a left ankle sprain during Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Lynx, forcing her to leave the court in a wheelchair during the second quarter.
During the second quarter with 7:16 remaining, Lynx forward Nia Coffey blocked Rivers' 3-foot layup attempt, causing her to land awkwardly and roll her ankle hard enough to pop off her shoe.
Teammates surrounded Rivers on the baseline as she lay in pain, holding up towels while trainers summoned a wheelchair to transport her to the locker room for evaluation.
The Sun played without center Brittney Griner and forward Aneesah Morrow due to injury and personal reasons, while the Lynx remained without rookie guard Olivia Miles, leaving both teams depleted.
Rivers, the eighth overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of North Carolina State, has started 12 of 21 games this season, averaging 6.9 points in 23 minutes.
