Suffolk Police Arrest Two at RAF Lakenheath During Iran War Protest
Seven protesters were arrested on suspicion of supporting Palestine Action after a blockade linked to claims that a US fighter jet came from the base.
On Saturday, Suffolk Police arrested two people for obstructing a public highway during an anti-war blockade outside the main gate of RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
The protest follows reports that a USAF F-15E from the base's 494th squadron was shot down by Iranian forces on April 3, with protesters arguing Britain is legally liable for operations conducted from its sovereign territory.
Saturday's blockade occurred during a six-day peace camp, where the Lakenheath Alliance alleged the site is being prepared to house B61-12 nuclear bombs, with organiser Peter Lux demanding the Ministry hold base operations "accountable."
Responding to the allegations, the Ministry confirmed it accepted a request to use RAF bases for "specific and limited defensive purposes" to protect British lives and support regional allies.
Activists, including veteran Craig Raeside who served 14 years in the Royal Engineers, continue demanding the MoD halt its partnership with USAF forces; the vigil concludes April 6.
