Sudanese RSF forces kill almost 300 in North Kordofan, activists say
NORTH KORDOFAN, SUDAN, JUL 14 – The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces killed nearly 300 civilians in coordinated assaults on villages, causing mass displacement and worsening Sudan's humanitarian crisis, UN says.
- Since Saturday, nearly 300 civilians have lost their lives in North Kordofan state due to attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces amid ongoing conflict in the region.
- The RSF launched attacks on multiple villages in the vicinity of Bara, a critical frontline in the civil war that began in April 2023, while the army maintained control over central and eastern areas.
- The attacks included over 200 deaths in Shag Alnom by arson or gunfire and 46 killed in Hilat Hamid, among them pregnant women and children, plus looting raids causing 38 more killings.
- Human rights groups and the United States condemned the RSF for war crimes, while Emergency Lawyers said the targeted villages had no military objectives and blamed RSF leadership.
- The violence forced over 3,400 people to flee, worsened Sudan’s humanitarian crisis, and prompted RSF leaders to promise accountability for those responsible.
