RSF Reportedly Kills Hundreds in Sudan Hospital
The World Health Organization reports 460 killed inside Saudi Maternity Hospital as Rapid Support Forces conducted mass killings and targeted attacks in Darfur.
- On Oct. 29, Sudan's Rapid Support Forces seized el-Fasher and reportedly killed 460 patients and companions inside Saudi Maternity Hospital, World Health Organization director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
- The conflict, which began in April 2023, pits the Sudanese Armed Forces against the RSF, which seized Darfur after over 500 days of siege, killing hundreds in North Darfur before the violence at el-Fasher hospital.
- Satellite imagery analyzed by Yale HRL corroborates alleged executions near Saudi Hospital and a detention center, while witnesses said RSF fighters on foot, camels, and vehicles abducted six health workers.
- The U.N. migration agency reported about 35,000 people have fled el-Fasher since Sunday, while more than 260,000 remain trapped, prompting WHO calls for protection and humanitarian access.
- WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned, `All attacks on health care must stop immediately and unconditionally`, noting 185 attacks caused at least 1,204 deaths since April 2023, while the Sudan Doctors Network called hospitals in El Fasher 'human slaughterhouses'.
