26 Women, 4 Children Killed in Sudan RSF Drone Strike: Official, Witnesses
The attack hit near a displacement camp and gold-mining site, as the war’s drone strikes have killed more than 1,100 people this year, UN figures show.
- On Friday, a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces killed 30 people, including 26 women and four children, near a displacement camp in Abu Shendi, Blue Nile.
- Wad Al-Mahi governor Mahgoub Al-Sheikh claimed the drone was launched from inside Ethiopia, where it struck near an informal gold mining site where women extract gold using bare hands.
- Nearly 100,000 people have been displaced across Blue Nile state this year, according to UN figures, while the UN describes the conflict as a 'war of atrocities' that has killed more than 200,000 people since April 2023.
- The war has evolved into a sophisticated drone conflict enabling far-reaching attacks. External powers fuel the fighting; the UAE denies backing the RSF, while Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye support the army.
- Peace negotiations have failed as army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo jostle for the upper hand, threatening to escalate the conflict into a regional war.
