15-Acre Maze Cut Into Design Celebrating David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday
The design includes a 100ft portrait and three animals, with staff cutting more than 5km of pathways through over a million maize plants.
York Maze unveiled its 2026 design honoring Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday, carving the broadcaster's likeness into a 15-acre field near Elvington in North Yorkshire.
Farmer Tom Pearcy created the 100ft high design alongside images of an elephant, tiger, and gorilla to celebrate the milestone, saying he is "honoured to make my contribution to his 100th birthday celebrations."
Opening on Saturday, July 11, the attraction features over a million maize seeds planted across the field, with more than 5km of pathways cut to form the portrait.
The Sir David Attenborough 100 Years on Planet Earth Maze will remain open to the public until September 3, after which the crop will be harvested.
Previous designs for the attraction have included Toy Story, Tutankhamun, Star Wars, and Doctor Who, establishing a tradition of elaborate pop-culture tributes at the site.
