Study finds rare vision issues in taking GLP-1 weight loss drugs

A small percentage of patients taking GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy have experienced vision loss, according to a study published in JAMA Ophthalmology.
Seven of nine patients studied had a loss of blood flow to the optic nerve, indicating possible serious eye conditions linked to these medications, according to the research.
Norah Lincoff, a professor at the University of Buffalo, stated that they are investigating whether these drugs increase the risk of ischemic optic nerve damage.
Novo Nordisk maintains that loss of blood flow to the optic nerve is not an adverse drug reaction according to their approved labels.
