Researchers at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine have found widespread genetic and protein changes in the brain cells of people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which may help shed light on mechanisms of the disease.
The location, process by which proteins are marked, and their activity and degradation are controlled, causes drastic changes in the elderly brain. A change in diet, such as a short period of caloric restriction, may partially reverse some of these molecular types.
