Students held inside due to police incident outside Kelowna school
Police vehicles were seen outside the school as officials withheld details and kept families waiting for dismissal.
On Thursday, RCMP took one person into custody at Springvalley Middle School in Kelowna after staff activated lockdown procedures, keeping students inside past dismissal due to an incident.
Central Okanagan School District staff activated lockdown procedures to ensure student safety after the incident, keeping students inside the Ziprick Road building after classes ended.
Three police vehicles were observed outside the school, and members of the District Critical Incident Response Team attended to provide support for affected students.
Justin Schneider of Central Okanagan Public Schools confirmed everyone is safe, noting the district is communicating with families while coordinating details with police before releasing further information.
Black Press Media reports that few details regarding the incident have been released, though resources remain available for students requiring additional support following the lockdown.
