Nigeria: Suspected Gunmen Kill Uniben Student, Injure Two Others
Police said a full investigation is underway after masked gunmen opened fire on a vehicle, killing one student and injuring three others.
- On Sunday evening, masked gunmen shot and killed a student identified as Alexander in a Mercedes-Benz GLK as he drove out of the main gate of the University of Benin at Ugbowo.
- Masked gunmen in an unregistered white GLK Mercedes-Benz intercepted the victim's vehicle, marked Lagos AAA 601 HT, at about 6 p.m. along the Benin-Lagos Road, firing at close range before fleeing.
- Eno Ikoedem of the Edo State Police Command confirmed that three other victims, including a female passerby, sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment.
- Commissioner of Police in the State Monday Agbonika ordered a full investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators, while operatives from the Ugbowo Divisional Police Headquarters evacuated the victim's remains from the scene.
- Management of the University of Benin distanced the institution from the incident, suggesting the killing may be connected to cult-related activities occurring outside the Ugbowo Campus environment.
