Struggling Athletics dismiss pitching coach Scott Emerson following 9th straight loss entering break
Dan Hubbs will lead a rotation with a 5.21 ERA after the A's dropped 17 of their last 20 games.
On Monday, the Oakland Athletics dismissed pitching coach Scott Emerson, promoting bullpen coach Dan Hubbs to interim pitching coach for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The Athletics entered the All-Star break on a nine-game losing streak, having lost 17 of their last 20 games; their 5.21 ERA ranks next to last in the major leagues, ahead of only Colorado.
Emerson joined the organization in 2002 as a minor league coach, earning promotion to major league bullpen coach in 2014 before becoming pitching coach in 2017, a position he held for nine seasons.
Currently fourth in the American League West with a 41-55 record, the Athletics sit eight games behind the Texas Rangers entering the All-Star break.
Hubbs will oversee the pitching staff for the remainder of the 2026 season, with the club hoping this staff adjustment stabilizes performance after the All-Star break.
