French rail unions announce September strikes
Three of France's largest railway unions have called for workers to walk out on September 18th, while Paris public transport workers also intend to strike, joining the nationwide action day called in response to the prime minister's cost-cutting budget.
While one movement threatens to "block everything" on September 10, another is planned eight days later at the call of the trade union confederations. For their part, the three main unions of the SNCF called for a "massive" movement.
Against the government's plans to save money, three majority unions of the SNCF called for a strike on 18 September.
Divisions between transport unions emerge on dates and demands, while the protest against austerity is organised as the September strikes approach.
