Stress-Induced Spin Currents In Antiferromagnets Offer New Spintronic Potential.
Applying mechanical stress to insulating antiferromagnetic materials, such as FeOOH, Cr2O3 and NaMnX, generates symmetry-protected pure spin currents via the piezospintronic effect, offering a potentially robust and compatible pathway for low-dissipation spintronic devices, and a novel first-principles method allows for the investigation of related spin dipole phenomena like ferrotoroidicity.
