Storms and possible tornadoes pummel the Northeast US, flooding roads and damaging beaches
More than 1,000 customers lost power in Delaware as floodwater closed part of the Long Island Expressway and damaged a Long Island beach club.
On Thursday, severe storms pummeled the Northeast, flooding roads and forcing the closure of the Long Island Expressway in Queens while a likely tornado struck Dover, Delaware, causing significant citywide damage.
A possible tornado tore apart a major beach club at Atlantic Beach, leaving broken beach chairs and wood beams scattered across the shoreline as debris pummeled the area.
The Delaware Electric Cooperative reported more than 1,000 customers lost power in Dover's northern service area following the storm, while photos showed fallen trees, downed power lines and flooded roads.
Flash flood warnings were issued across parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, reflecting the storm system's extensive hydrological threat as it tracked through the Northeast corridor.
Authorities declared a state of emergency in response to the damage, while New York City Emergency Management urged residents to stay safe as emergency crews waded through flooded roads.
