Severe storms with heavy rainfall and strong winds have been raging in Greece for the third day. The worst of the situation occurred on Wednesday and during the night into Thursday, when in some places over 150 millimeters of precipitation fell in 24 hours. The torrential rains triggered flash floods that caused extensive damage and claimed one life.
The Erminio storm caused the first death in Greece, on Friday (1), when reaching the country with torrential rains, floods, hurricanes and an atmosphere of intense red and orange tones. The scenario, described by residents as “infernal”, was observed mainly on the islands of Santorini and Crete, where the combination of dust came from north Africa and adverse weather conditions dramatically altered the coloring of the sky.
Weather alarm in the Aegean Sea: The fire brigade is in continuous use, flights have been cancelled, ferry operations have been largely stopped - and the sky suddenly glows orange-red. There is no warning yet.
