Stolen mobility track chairs returned to Fort Harrison State Park

Indiana conservation officers said the $5,500 reward helped recover the mobility devices, but two Vietnam War-era helmets are still missing.

  • On Thursday, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed two all-terrain track chairs stolen from Fort Harrison State Park were safely returned. The mobility devices, valued at about $25,000 each, help visitors with limited mobility explore rugged terrain.
  • Break-Ins at six DNR-owned buildings between April 30 and May 1 led to the theft of the chairs and two Vietnam War-era helmets. Indiana Conservation Officers reported the helmets remain missing.
  • A private donor and the Indy Parks Alliance had offered a $5,500 reward for information leading to recovery. The returned chairs were part of a 45-device fleet funded by a 2024 Lilly Endowment Grant.
  • Capt. Jet Quillen said, "Track chairs open up incredible opportunities for people with mobility limitations to experience the outdoors." The department expressed gratitude to everyone who provided information.
  • While the chairs are back, the theft investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the missing Vietnam War-era helmets should contact the Indiana Conservation Officers Dispatch Center.
