US stocks rise to a record on expectations companies will make even fatter profits
Analysts expect S&P 500 companies to post nearly 30% earnings growth, with easing bond yields and AI-linked deals supporting the rally.
On Tuesday, the S&P 500 climbed 0.7% to surpass its August record, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6% and the Nasdaq composite reached an all-time high.
Analysts expect S&P 500 companies to deliver nearly 30% growth in earnings per share from a year earlier, according to FactSet, marking a third straight quarter of growth exceeding 25%.
Constellation Energy jumped 11.7% after announcing a long-term deal to supply Google with electricity, while Lamb Weston rallied 8.2% after beating quarterly profit projections.
Yields on the 10-year Treasury eased to 5.26% from 5.31% late Monday, and Brent crude oil settled at $100.58, helping ease inflation pressure on markets.
Despite inflation and bond yield concerns, strategists at Barclays Capital say rising earnings help investors "win the tug-of-war against yields" and sustain market gains.
