Stellantis Recalls over 1M Jeeps Due to Potential Fire Hazard: NHTSA
- On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles from model years 2021 to 2025 due to a potential fire risk.
- Investigators linked 51 fires and one injury to a faulty electrical connection in the power steering pump wiring, which allows "combustible materials to overheat and potentially catch fire" even when vehicles are parked.
- FCA, the company behind Stellantis North America, confirmed the recall to ABC News on Wednesday, noting more than 254,000 additional vehicles will be recalled in Canada, Mexico, and other markets.
- The NHTSA advised owners to park affected Jeeps "outside and away from buildings" until repairs are completed, while FCA US will "repair or replace the wiring harness and/or electric hydraulic power steering pump."
- Vehicle identification numbers become searchable on the NHTSA website starting Thursday, June 11, with official notification letters expected to be mailed to owners on July 9.
