Steelers reveal if Aaron Rodgers will play vs. Jets
Coach Mike McCarthy is giving the rookie quarterbacks extended snaps as Pittsburgh weighs its depth chart before final roster cuts.
On Wednesday, Coach Mike McCarthy announced that Will Howard will start Friday's game against the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium, with rookie Drew Allar entering later in the contest.
Seeking to evaluate his younger signal-callers, McCarthy stated he has seen enough from Mason Rudolph and plans to "max out the opportunities" for both Howard and Allar during the game.
The duo combined for four touchdown drives in last week's victory over the Green Bay Packers, while Rudolph completed 10 of 11 passes for 93 yards in the preseason opener.
Although most NFL teams carry only three quarterbacks, Pittsburgh is considering keeping four signal-callers, putting pressure on Howard and Allar to earn their roster spots before cuts later this month.
With the 53-man roster deadline approaching, performance against New York carries significant weight as both Howard and Allar aim to secure long-term roles at the position.
