Steam Frame VR Headset Price Revealed, And It's Available to Buy Soon
The standalone headset includes controllers and a rebuilt Half-Life: Alyx, with reservation signups opening before the first purchase emails on Sept. 18.
- Valve opened reservations for the Steam Frame VR headset today, pricing the base 256GB model at $1,059 and the 1TB version at $1,299, both including controllers and Half-Life: Alyx.
- The headset release follows delays from last year caused in part by RAMageddon. Valve officially launched its product line this year, releasing the Steam Controller in May and the Steam Machine in June before today's Frame debut.
- Built-In eye tracking and foveated rendering enable the device to run 2020's Half-Life: Alyx natively, a development Valve describes as a "silver bullet." The company spent "over a year" optimizing Vulkan drivers to support the title.
- Interested buyers must sign up for their preferred configuration by 10 AM PT on September 17th. Valve will randomize signups, with successful lottery participants receiving purchase emails starting September 18th to complete orders within 72 hours.
- Valve plans to release an optional "enthusiast kit" that doubles battery capacity with stacked magnetic batteries and premium speakers, though pricing remains unannounced. Partner Arcturus will offer a $149 Vision Camera adding color passthrough vision to the headset.
