Statue of Pat Riley, Mastermind of Lakers' Showtime Era, Unveiled Outside Crypto.com Arena
Pat Riley’s statue at Crypto.com Arena honors his four championships and lasting influence on the Lakers during the 1980s Showtime era, officials said.
- Pat Riley returned to Star Plaza on Sunday, February 22, 2026, as the Lakers unveiled an 8-foot bronze statue of the Hall of Fame coach, who wore a Giorgio Armani suit at the ceremony.
- Riley's coaching success earned him the honor because he led the Lakers to four NBA championships and is the first person honored at Star Plaza solely for coaching.
- The bronze figure is a nearly 8-foot, 510-lb likeness styled in an Armani suit with a crocodile-leather belt and a 1985 championship ring, unveiled before Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dwyane Wade, Michael Douglas and Jeanie Buss.
- The unveiling makes Riley the eighth franchise figure with a Star Plaza statue, joining Kobe Bryant, Jerry West and others, while the ceremony was broadcast on Spectrum SportsNet+ and will be on the Lakers' website.
- Riley's record includes three Coach of the Year awards with three franchises, at least 50 wins in 17 seasons, and induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
