Suspect In Fatal Parole Officer Shooting Arrested: Report
ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUL 17 – Bryan Keith Hall, arrested and charged with first-degree murder, shot parole agent Joshua Byrd inside the parole office; this is CDCR's first line-of-duty death since 2018.
- On Thursday afternoon, a parole agent was shot inside the Division of Adult Parole Operations office, according to authorities.
- Authorities said court records show that Bryan Keith Hall has faced numerous charges in previous incidents, including a 2022 stabbing in Oakland’s Lakeshore retail area.
- According to KTVU, the suspect carjacked an AC Transit bus and headed toward 66th Avenue and Bancroft Avenue while the California Highway Patrol closed key roads.
- Hours later, authorities arrested Bryan Keith Hall, while flags at the State Capitol were ordered to be flown at half-staff in Byrd’s honor, and a procession carried Byrd’s body to Sacramento.
- The Oakland Police Department announced that they set up a media staging area at the 8400 block of Edgewater Drive for investigation updates as they search for the suspect.
