More than half of New York counties and all New Jersey counties declared emergencies as forecasts predict 4 to 9 inches of snow with gusts up to 50 mph, officials said.
- On Friday, Dec. 26, Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency for 36 counties, including all five New York City boroughs, as widespread snow is expected Friday evening into Saturday morning.
- The National Weather Service forecasts the Mid-Hudson, New York City and Long Island regions will get four to eight inches of snow, with peak snowfall rates exceeding two inches per hour and gusts up to 50 mph.
- Airports reported departing flights from LaGuardia Airport delayed an average of 60 minutes, while Suffolk police responded to more than 40 crashes countywide.
- The storm forced rescheduling of Broome County events and DMV in Endicott closure on Dec. 27, while the New York State court system closed early Friday at 1 p.m. and local school administrators decide postponements.
- Forecasters say this could be the highest New York City snowfall since 2022, and state agencies began preparations earlier this week as snow moves east and ice accumulation could increase cancellations.
