Legislature approves penny-rounding bill following coin's cancellation
Florida retailers can now choose to round cash transactions to the nearest nickel due to penny shortages, with sales tax unchanged and pennies still accepted, lawmakers said.
- On Tuesday, the Florida Legislature passed SB 1074, allowing retailers to round cash transactions to the nearest nickel in response to the U.S. government ceasing penny production.

- Retailers may opt to round cash totals only, excluding electronic payments; amounts ending in one or two cents drop to zero, while three or four cents round up to five cents.
