Jake Middleton Hit Leaves Matt Duchene Injured, Wild Ignited
Duchene was sidelined day-to-day with an upper-body injury after a legal shoulder hit by Middleton led to a fight and a Minnesota power play goal, coach said.
- Stars forward Matt Duchene left the game early in the third period after a massive hit from Jacob Middleton in Dallas on Tuesday night.
- Replays showed Duchene carrying the puck when Jacob Middleton's shoulder struck him squarely in the upper chest, triggering Alexander Petrovic, Minnesota Wild defender, to drop his gloves and spark penalties and a Minnesota power play.
- On Wednesday, Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Duchene was listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury and confirmed he did not return to the game, adding he thought the contact was high.
- Minnesota's Matt Boldy scored on the ensuing power play to make it 3-1, while veteran Vladimir Tarasenko has recorded four points in four games with his sixth NHL team.
- After the game, Wild rookie Zeev Buium said he recorded two more firsts Tuesday in North Texas, and Coach John Hynes will work with Tarasenko during the two-day break to improve five-on-five production.
